Safe + Sound Week will spotlight emergency preparedness

Washington — “Preparedness is your superpower,” OSHA and a coalition of safety organizations – including the National Safety Council – will be reminding safety professionals during the eighth annual Safe + Sound Week.

That’s the theme of the national initiative, set for Aug. 11-17. The event is intended to raise awareness and understanding of workplace safety and health programs. OSHA calls on “every workplace” to establish a program that includes “management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards.”

OSHA provides resources to help start an organizational safety program, revive an existing one or provide opportunities to recognize safety successes. In step with the agency’s emphasis on emergency preparedness and response, the resources include worksheets that guide employers through developing a crisis communication plan and fine-tuning an emergency action plan.

The coalition encourages participating organizations that complete these and other challenges to share them on social media using the hashtag #SafeAndSoundAtWork.

Registration for Safe + Sound Week is set to open in July.
