Washington — New online training from the National Volunteer Fire Council is intended to help fire departments better respond to pipeline emergencies.

Collaborative Programs: Pipeline Safety and Response was developed in collaboration with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

“This course in the NVFC Virtual Classroom discusses how your fire department can forge relationships with operators and other stakeholders to enhance its training, safety and response to pipeline emergencies,” the council says. “Topics covered will help you understand your risks, identify collaborative drills and exercises, discover mutual aid opportunities, and build partnerships to better protect both your responders and community.”

NVFC offers additional free resources, including the Fire Department Pipeline Response, Emergency Planning, and Preparedness Toolkit; the searchable National Pipeline Mapping System; and another online course: Pipeline Response PREP: Achieving Organizational Readiness for Pipeline Emergencies.
