FMCSA Opens Application Window for Discretionary Grant to Promote CMV Safety and Innovative Technologies

Today, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity for five separate discretionary grants in the FY 2025 application cycle. Grant applications are due by 5:00 pm Eastern Time on March 7, 2025.

The grants, which could total over $86 million, will fund projects that advance the technological capability and promote the deployment of intelligent transportation system applications for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) operations and CMV safety-related activities.

“By supporting innovative technologies and safety education, these grants empower our partners to address unique safety challenges and reduce risks for commercial motor vehicle drivers and the traveling public alike,” added FMCSA Deputy Administrator Vinn White. “Every dollar invested in safety is a step closer to safer roadways and stronger communities across America.”

Applications are now open through the following FMCSA grant programs:

  • The High Priority Innovative Technology Deployment (HP-ITD) Grant Program supports innovative and impactful projects that advance the technological capability and promote the deployment of intelligent transportation system applications for CMV operations. The grant program also aims to support/maintain CMV information systems/networks to link Federal motor carrier safety information systems with state CMV systems; improve safety and productivity of CMVs and commercial drivers; and reduce costs associated with CMV operations and regulatory requirements.

  • The High Priority Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety (HPCMV) Grant Program funds CMV safety-related activities that increase public awareness and education on CMV safety, target unsafe driving in high-risk crash corridors, demonstrate new technologies to improve CMV safety, improve safety data, and other projects that help meet FMCSA’s goal of improving CMV safety nationwide.
