Two discretionary grants could total over $90 million and make obtaining a CDL easier for Veterans and others
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) today announced Notices of Funding Opportunity for two discretionary grants in the fiscal year (FY) 2025 application cycle. Grant applications are due by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on February 24, 2025.
These grants, which could total over $90 million, will fund projects that provide commercial motor vehicle (CMV) operator training to future CDL holders, and implement and enhance the national CDL program.
“At FMCSA, we are serious about our mission of reducing crashes and fatalities on the nation’s roadways that involve large trucks and buses,” said FMCSA Deputy Administrator Vinn White. “Together, these grants represent our commitment to investing in America and our dedication to supporting strong state and local partnerships that not only help ensure safe, qualified CMV drivers are on the roads but also work to enhance overall roadway safety.”
Applications are now open through the following FMCSA grant programs:
The Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training (CMVOST) Grant Program funds organizations providing CMV operator training to current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including National Guard members and Reservists, as well as certain military family members. Special consideration will be given to students from underserved communities, including women, and refugees communities.
The Commercial Driver’s License Program Implementation (CDLPI) Grant Program helps implement and enhance the national CDL program, which is focused on ensuring each CDL driver has only one license and one driving record, commonly referred to as ‘One Driver — One License — One Record’.
