The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has announced an extension of the medical certification waiver related to the National Registry II (NRII) implementation.
Under this waiver, interstate CDL and CLP holders, as well as motor carriers, may continue using a paper copy of the Medical Examiner’s Certificate (Form MCSA-5876) as proof of medical certification for up to 60 days after the date of issuance. This extension is intended to ease the transition as states continue onboarding to the NRII electronic system. The waiver is effective October 13, 2025, through January 10, 2026.
FMCSA strongly recommends that medical examiners continue to issue paper medical certificates to drivers at the time of their physical qualification exam until further notice.
