Enhancing situational awareness: New website offers resources

S.A.F.E

Lansing, MI — A new webpage from Michigan OSHA features resources and a recorded webinar on improving situational awareness in the workplace.

The webpage is part of the agency’s Stay Alert For Everyone (SAFE) initiative, aimed at helping employers and workers recognize changing conditions, identify hazards on the job, and improve decision-making to prevent serious injuries and fatalities.

Last year, 57% of worker deaths were the result of contact incidents, MIOSHA says. The agency adds that struck-by, crush-by and caught-in incidents are among the leading causes of SIFs across multiple industries, including construction, manufacturing, warehousing and transportation.

The resources cover hazard recognition, information on requesting consultation assistance and access to streaming training videos. Meanwhile, key topics discussed in the webinar include blind spots, work zones, mobile equipment, struck-by hazards, communication and planning, and training and awareness.
