Arizona Trucking Association Alerts Members to Upcoming Changes in Medical Certification Procedures

Medical certificate

PHOENIX, AZ – May 15, 2025 – The Arizona Trucking Association (ATA) today announced important changes to the medical certification submission process that will impact all commercial drivers operating in the state. Beginning June 23, 2025, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will implement its Medical Examiner’s Certification Integration rule, streamlining the medical card certification process through automation.

Key Changes Effective June 23, 2025:

  • Medical examiners will electronically submit examination results directly to the FMCSA
  • FMCSA will automatically forward these results to state licensing agencies
  • Commercial drivers will no longer be required to submit their Medical Examiner’s Certificates (MECs) to their state licensing agency

“This represents a significant shift in how medical certifications are processed and maintained,” said Tony Bradley, President of the Arizona Trucking Association. “While this automation will eventually reduce paperwork and streamline compliance, it’s crucial that our members understand the current requirements remain in effect until the June implementation date.”

What Drivers Need to Know:
ATA emphasizes that until June 23, 2025, all current medical certification procedures remain unchanged. Commercial drivers must continue to:

  • Submit physical copies of their MECs to their state licensing agency
  • Carry their current MEC while operating a commercial vehicle
  • Verify their medical certification status with their state licensing agency
