Prevent struck-bys near garbage and recycling trucks

Between 2012 and 2022, 310 work-related deaths linked to refuse trucks were recorded, according to NIOSH. The fatality rate was 22.6 per 100,000 waste collection workers, which is more than six times the average occupational fatality rate of 3.7 for all industries combined.

Around 74% of the deaths were related to transportation incidents, which include both struck-by incidents and collisions involving other vehicles.
