Washington — A NIOSH video promoting the agency’s National Firefighter Registry for Cancer is being honored for excellence in TV and video across all screens.
Tell Us About Your Fire Service has been named a Gold Winner in the Public Interest and Awareness category in the 47th annual Telly Awards. Featuring firefighters from California’s Orange County Fire Authority, the video explains the benefits of signing up for the voluntary registry.
“Through the registry, NIOSH investigates how your fire service history and other factors relate to cancer outcomes over time,” the agency says in the video. “Our goal is to help firefighters across the United States reduce their risk of developing cancer.”
All firefighters – active or retired, career or volunteer, and from any specialty – are invited to enroll in the registry. The video explains that firefighters can join by setting up a profile online and then answering questions about their work history and exposures. Participating in the registry takes about 30 minutes, NIOSH says.
The Telly Awards are judged by leaders from video platforms, TV, streaming networks and production companies. This year’s field included more than 13,000 entries, including videos from all 50 states and six different continents.
“We are honored to be recognized for this effort and are thankful to the firefighters who helped make this video possible,” NFR manager Kenny Fent said in a press release. “We hope ‘Tell Us About Your Fire Service’ inspires firefighters from across the fire service to make a commitment to fighting cancer by joining the registry.”
