Phoenix — The Arizona Department of Transportation will use a state grant to promote safer commercial vehicle travel by providing officers with advanced training to recognize drug and alcohol impairment among truck and bus drivers.
The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety awarded nearly $39,000 to ADOT’s Enforcement and Compliance Division to conduct additional enforcement for driving under the influence. The effort will be part of multiagency commercial vehicle DUI enforcement during the holidays and through Sept. 30, according to a ADOT press release.
A commercial vehicle driver is considered to be under the influence with a 0.04% blood alcohol concentration, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Administration. That’s half the legal limit in Arizona for passenger vehicle drivers.
Commercial drivers who are found to be driving under the influence are subject to sanctions in federal regulations, according to ADOT.
